This past Sunday, Pastor Donnie preached from Jeremiah 17:5–8 in a message titled “Blessed is the One Who Trusts in the Lord.” He reminded us how the world teaches us from an early age to “be strong” and to rely on ourselves. But real strength doesn’t come from self-reliance—it comes from trusting in the Lord. When we lean on our own ability, we miss out on the greater, unspeakable strength that God has made available to us.
Putting trust in ourselves, other people, jobs, or worldly leaders will always leave us empty. But when we trust in God, we’ll have all the strength we need. Those who rely on Him are like trees planted by water—steadfast and full of life—while those who rely on themselves are like a dry bush in the desert, withering and blown about by the wind.
